Many times when I place a point on the body, such as San Jiao 5, gut sounds like swirling or gurgling immediately follow. This indicates the nervous system is signaling the digestive system to activate.
Nerve pathways can become blocked and cause organ systems to become sluggish.
Most patients also have improved urinary and bowel elimination after a treatment. This proves to be a helpful way to promote digestion without harmful side effects. Taking regular medications such as laxatives may become habit forming. The body can become lazy and require such medicines on a regular basis. Time after time patients have said their digestion was first to improve with acupuncture treatment.

Acupuncture also activates the water metabolism in the body. This improves the absorption of water into the cells and the excretion of the waste water from the body. The kidneys and bladder can be strengthened by tonifying the organs to increase their function naturally. In doing so, the excess water wastes, such as in swelling from edema, are released easier after the acupuncture treatment.
I have treated many patients with water edema in their legs and feet where acupuncture decreases it significantly after treatment.
These treatments can be done along with pain treatments which are normally the main reason for the patient seeking acupuncture.
Because Chinese or Eastern medicine is holistic medicine, we treat the entire body to facilitate homeostatic balance within all organ systems.
For indigestion, constipation or loose stools, acupuncture can be a great natural method.
First, I will talk with you about your history of symptoms, look at your tongue, feel your pulse in order to formulate the best treatment for you. These treatments may comprise of one or a combination of acupressure, acupuncture, cupping, laser therapy, massage, herbal medicine, and/or whole food supplementation. Free 15 minute consultations are available in person or over the phone. Some insurance covers acupuncture so we can also take this information to check it for you.
Adequate water intake of approximately half your weight in ounces (unless not medically indicated), daily supplementation of psyllium seed husk powder for constipation (taken as directed), or the whole food supplement DigestPlex found in the office at North Port Acupuncture, or in our online Nutriplex store, can break down tough foods that are difficult to digest.

DigestPlex combats bloating, heartburn and flatulence while supporting proper digestion & cholesterol health. Reducing sugar and caffeine in the diet is also very effective in treating digestive disorders. Gentle exercise also improves the Qi (energy) throughout the body so it can function better.
